Advertisers desperately want to get inside of our heads…You may think, well duh, of course advertisers want to know what’s going on inside of my head…then they will know exactly what I want and how I want it. No more guessing how to market to me, they want to know precisely how I react to their advertising and be able to streamline the process of my money flying out of my pockets. Indeed, advertisers have been employing ground breaking technology for a while now trying to pry into the heads of consumers. Business Week writes that, “It’s not surprising that more scientific methods have caught on. While consumer reaction can be gauged through the usual focus groups and surveys, some companies also employ new technologies, like those that test heart rate or track eye movements.” However, a new startup company, EmSense, now offers a much deeper scan into the skulls of would be buyers. EmSense is in the business of developing games using a headset that actually reports back what the gamer’s response to the game is based oh physiological cues. It measures when you furrow our brow, when you blush, when you sweat and more. So combined with tactics already in use, such as measuring changes in heart rate and breathing, this new tool can help refine the process of making the game exactly what the gamer wants.
Of course, the ramifications of such a device are double sided. While game makers and advertisers will be able to streamline their products with greater ease towards the consumer mind, I must admit I get the willies thinking about how this device might be used further down the road as a “security” tool…I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Until then, I will be be practicing the techniques of No Mind…

Mysterious posters have been popping up in at intersections in Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire, England. The posters simply have the face of what appears to be a middle aged woman and the caption “Astrid” across the top. The posters seem to be building quite the buzz. Are the posters the effort of someone trying to locate someone, an old friend, lover, or perhaps missing person? Are they a viral art project along the lines of the “OBEY” stickers that have Andre the Giant’s face on them? A seemingly similar message has appeared in ScotsGay magazine, a publication for gay men and bisexuals, but there’s been no word as to what the intent of the image is.
All I know is that if I see one pop up in my neighborhood, it’ll be getting the old pirate mustache compliments of my sharpie marker. :-{)

Several UFO sightings were reported last night in Australia, reports ranging across Mt Eliza and Richmond to St Albans. The calls started coming in around 9:45 pm and were reporting witnessing, “an amazing bright blue light in the sky with a long blue trail.” Astronmers from The Astrological Society of Victoria were asked about the strange streak of blue light across the night sky and reported that a meteor had entered the Earth’s atmosphere somewhere over north-east Victoria and continued towards South Australia. Most of the time a meteor will be about the size of a grain of sand, but evidently this one was much larger, although there seems to be no real indication of exactly how big, perhaps the size of an tennis ball. So, it appears there’s no E.T. to phone home about after all, but I hope a few people atleast got to make a wish on a falling star.
