Dumbledore Gay: possible new Village People Album!

Posted by Catfish as books, gay

At a recent speaking engagement at Carnegie Hall in New York, JK Rowling answered a young fan’s question by stating that Dumbledore was gay and had been in love with rival wizard Gellert Grunndlewald for years…this will give fans a whole new reason to go back and re-read the series, looking for such gems as the following passage of Dumbledore speaking to Harry in book 7:

“You cannot imagine how his ideas caught me, Harry, inflamed me.” (italics added of course)

Mostly this admission is being perceived as a positive gesture that will help normalize people’s perception of how being gay defines a person, which is admittedly a great thing. However, a million jokes about wizard’s wands and alternative uses for broomsticks aside, does it really take a freakin’ Wizard to fight for Gay rights and to help normalize people’s perception of gays? But, when I pause and reflect, I should not be so quick to jump to judgment. A wizard makes perfect sense as a champion of equal gay rights when you line him up next to an American Indian , a construction worker, a police officer, an army man, and leather wearing “biker”and a Navy Seaman…err I mean sailor.

Alls I have to say is, poor, poor Neville Longbottom.

So way to go JK Rowling, you’ve expanded my horizons of exactly what types of people in the world are gay.

Rowling added, “I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy.”

Boy arrested for possessing a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook

Posted by Catfish as BS, books

A 17 year old UK boy appeared before a court to face charges of plotting to blow up members of the British National Party. It is alleged that he had a copy of the cookbook in his possession at the time of arrest. The Anarchist Cookbook has several “recipes” that can be used to make homemade explosive devices. The defendant in this case is a citizen of the UK but also hold dual citizenship with Pakistan. Interestingly enough, the Anarchists’ Cookbook, is freely available across the internet…for example, here. Be warned, after downloading, you too may become an enemy combatant. Thousands of frustrated, pimply faced teenage boys will be your cohorts. The revolution won’t be televised…nope, it’ll be youtube’d.

And just for the record: I had a copy of this when I was 18 myself. Lock me up.

Hyphen population waning, boarding on extinction!

Posted by Catfish as books, humor

That’s right Hyphen’s are slowly becoming extinct, or at least according to the latest edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. The 6th Edition of this massive dictionary has eliminated the hyphens from nearly 16,000 words! Former hyphenated words such as pot-belly and leap-frog now appear sans hyphen. The reason? It seems people today we just don;t have the time anymore to reach over, disrupt the tippy tap tap tapping of our assuredly extremely important email, and press the hyphen key.

My thoughts? If we don’t need the hyphen key anymore, let’s get rid of it and replace it with a pizza button. Just press the pizza button, and moments later, pizza will be delivered right to your door. Now, that’s technology.
